At the Union Nominating Meeting held at 3 PM on April 20th, the Election Committee took nominations for all Local 2 elected offices: President, Vice-President, Secretary-Treasurer, Executive Board, and Trustees. There was only one person nominated for election for each of the respective positions. Therefore, by acclamation, Local 2’s elected officers for the next 3 years are: |

At the April Local 2 membership meeting, a group of members brought forward a proposed By-Law change.
In accordance with the By-Laws, the proposed amendment was read at the April membership meeting and therefore the proposal will be voted on by the membership at an All-Day secret ballot vote on Wednesday, May 19th.
The Proposed By-Law reads as follows:
Add to ARTICLE XI TRIALS AND APPEALS a new section, Section 6
Section 6
The Unite HERE Local 2 Secretary-Treasurer shall take all steps necessary to ensure that all identifiable strikebreakers (scabs), be brought up on charges for strikebreaking. All Strikebreakers will be afforded due process in accordance with Unite HERE Local 2 Bylaws and the International Constitution. Charges levied against strikebreakers shall be lodged no later than (60) days after the conclusion of any strike. Trial boards shall be appointed no later than forty five (45) days after charges are lodged. Trials must be convened no later than sixty (60) days after trial boards are appointed. All fines collected from each strikebreaker will be deposited into the Strike Fund. At the discretion of the Executive Board, and subject to approval from the membership, funds may be transferred from the Strike Fund to the General Fund to cover the costs of the trials.
The vote will take place outside the Local 2 Union Hall:

To be able to vote, you must be a member in good standing, with your dues paid in either March, April, or May 2021, or be laid-off due to COVID-19 in April 2020 or later.

Propuesta de Modificación de Estatutos programado para votar: Miércoles, 19 de mayo
En la reunión de los miembros del Local 2 en abril, un grupo de miembros presentó una propuesta para modificar los Estatutos.
De acuerdo con los Estatutos, la enmienda que se propone fue leída ante la reunión de los miembros de abril y por consiguiente los miembros votarán sobre la propuesta en una votación de todo el día por voto secreto el miércoles, 19 de mayo.
La Propuesta de Estatuto dice lo siguiente:
Se agrega una nueva sección, Sección 6, al artículo xi juicios y apelaciones
Sección 6
El Secretario-Tesorero de Unite HERE Local 2 debe tomar todas las medidas necesarias para asegurar que se levanten cargos contra todos los rompehuelgas (scabs) identificables por violar huelga. Se les permitirá a todos los rompehuelgas todas las garantías procesales de acuerdo con los Estatutos de Unite HERE Local 2 y la Constitución Internacional. Se deben presentar los cargos contra los rompehuelgas a más tardar para los sesenta (60) días posteriores a la conclusión de la huelga. Update on health care & the American Rescue Plan
Last week, the government gave health funds more direction about how President Biden’s COBRA plan will work. Under this program, many Local 2 members might be eligible to get back on union health benefits at no cost between now and September 2021. Click here for more information about who is and isn’t covered. The trustees of the union’s San Francisco and San Mateo health funds are meeting this week, and letters will be mailed soon to explain what you need to do to enroll if you are qualified.
As we’ve said before, this COBRA plan will help many people between now and September. But it’s just a short-term and incomplete fix. If you haven’t done so already, please join the hundreds of other Local 2 members and fill out this petition to Governor Newsom asking him to deliver on health care reform in California – so no worker ever has to go through what so many Local 2 members have experienced with the loss of health care coverage.
