Visit heiworkersrising.info for up to date information about HEI hotel organizing campaigns, pictures, video and profiles of HEI workers across the country.
HEI is the owner of the Le Meridien hotel in San Francisco, one of three non-union hotels that are currently resisting their workers' efforts to secure a fair process that would allow them to decide whether to form a union at their workplace. Currently, workers at the HEI Le Meridien in San Francisco and the HEI Hilton in Long Beach have called for consumer boycotts of their own hotels.
Le Meridien Hotel bosses lose court battle against Local 2!
November 2, 2009 – For over four months, HEI Le Meridien hotel management has been trying to restrict the rights of workers and their supporters from freely demonstrating outside of the hotel. Demonstrations have occurred almost weekly since workers launched a boycott of their own hotel in February of 2009. On November 2, the judge ruled against hotel management and refused to sign an order that would have restricted the rights of workers and their supporters to demonstrate outside the property.

San Francisco's hotel workers organizing
In June of 2008 workers at the HEI Le Meridien and Hyatt Fisherman's Wharf hotels in San Francisco petitioned their management to respect their rights. Workers asked that their employers agree to a fair process that would allow them to decide whether to form a union, without fear of intimidation and coercion from hotel management. Sadly, their employers denied their requests even though other hotels across the San Francisco area have already agreed to this same process, including the Intercontinental, Four Seasons and Omni Hotels.
Additionally, Hyatt has already agreed to provide this same process to workers at all new hotels they open in the cities of San Francisco and San Mateo. Despite the workers' strongest efforts, hotel management continues to be resistant to their workers' requests and have given way to a labor dispute that may drag on for several years. In Feburary of 2009, a majority of workers at both hotel called for consumer boycotts of their employers. They are asking guests to not eat, meet or sleep at either hotel until the disputes have been resolved.
